This is a Created by Nita’s Silent Hands, this event is part of a larger movement to elevate Deaf voices through storytelling and community-driven media.
The Deaf community holds stories that the world rarely hears, stories of resilience, culture, identity, and strength.
For generations, Deaf voices have often been misunderstood, overlooked, or spoken about rather than listened to.
The Deaf Culture Experience was created to change that.
This premiere night marks the launch of a powerful five-part documentary series designed to elevate authentic Deaf stories through cinematic storytelling, real interviews, and lived experiences.
But this project goes beyond a documentary.
Your support will also help launch a youth filmmaking initiative that empowers Deaf students to become storytellers themselves, creating opportunities for the next generation to share their voices with the world.
Tonight is more than a celebration.
It is the beginning of a movement to ensure Deaf culture is seen, understood, and preserved through storytelling.
Nita's Silent Hands is a nonprofit organization built on love, legacy, and a lifelong understanding of two worlds.
Founded by Starr, a CODA — Child of a Deaf Adult, this organization was born from a life lived at the intersection of the Deaf and hearing communities. Growing up navigating both worlds gave Starr a rare, intimate perspective on the gap between them, and an unshakeable commitment to bridge it.
The name Nita's carries two souls: Chinita, a Deaf mother who shaped Starr's understanding of silence, strength, and culture, and Juanita, a grandmother whose unwavering belief in Starr's dreams never faded, even until her final breath. Together, they are the heartbeat behind everything this organization does.
The Deaf and hard-of-hearing community experiences the world in deeply powerful ways, yet for generations, those stories have gone untold. Not because they lack meaning, but because they have lacked a platform. Nita's Silent Hands exists to change that.
Our mission is to bridge the gap between the Deaf and hearing communities one story, one connection, one community at a time, through our G.E.A.R. Method:
Giving back, Education, Awareness, and Resources.
