Nita's Silent Hands is named for the two women whose lives shaped the founder. Chinita and Juanita. The two Nitas. The original hands behind the work. Every program this organization runs traces back to what those two women built between them.
Hands of Unity carries that lineage forward. The name speaks to what the work has always required and what it always will. Hearing hands and Deaf hands joined together. CODAs and ASL students standing alongside Deaf elders and Deaf youth. Donors and volunteers and program partners holding the bridge steady, side by side, every month of every year.
Unity is not a wish. It is the way the work happens. One community cannot close the gap alone. Two communities holding the work together is the only way the bridge keeps standing.
